Redbox Bowl

DESIGN

In September 2018, I was given the opportunity to design the logo for a College Bowl football game that would be held on New Years Eve of that year. The timeframe was extremely condensed, but the team and I were able to deliver.
The design is kept very simple by using the Redbox core branding as the base for the creative. The logo for the event was inspired by the location of the game – San Francisco. The stitching on the football is meant to symbolize the Golden Gate Bridge. The Bridge was also the inspiration behind the 2019 trophy design concept. I was the lead creative for both the 2018 and 2019 games as the Redbox Bowl was intended to be 2018-2020 but due to the pandemic, the 2020 game was cancelled.
The entire project was a huge undertaking for a small but mighty team. Besides the initial branding, I was responsible for creating everything from stadium digital signing all the way down to the coin being tossed at the start of the game.

Redbox Bowl 2019 Coin

For the 2019 opening coin toss, a unique coin used. I designed this coin to resemble a disc – one side for movies, the other for games. The coin was metal and measured 1.75" diameter with a 3mm thickness.

The 2019 Bowl brought new opportunites to design and the trophy was an exciting new project to create. I did several concepts and MTM Recognition brought them to life.

The day before the Redbox Bowl game, a dedicated email was sent out to help hype the audience for not only the game, but tease our new commercials that would be airing during the FOX broadcast.

One of the more rewarding aspects of this projects was being able to see how many applications the logo I designed appeared on. Levi's stadium was able to record a time-lapse video of the logo being painted on the field for the 2019 game. The video was posted to the official Redbox Bowl social platforms.
